How to do Foundation Double Crochet
Posted by vicki brown on
As today is the day we start the Summer of Crochet Socks crochet-a-long and the first pattern (Cranage Socks) starts with a row of Foundation Double Crochet, I thought it would be a good opportunity to do a little tutorial for this stitch.
I love this method of starting any crochet work - I much prefer it to starting chains - and it's particuarly useful for this pattern as we go around and work into the underside of the foundation row and I think it makes a nicer base of the stitch.
If you really don't want to do this - then you absolutely can just do a starting chain and work as many stitches as the pattern calls for - but I think once you have a go at this you'll be converted.
Start with a slip stitch.
Chain two.
Insert your hook into the first chain you made (or second chain from hook) yarn around hook, draw through one loop - so you now have 2 loops on your hook.
Yarn around hook - draw through one loop again. So you've essentially worked two chains since inserting into your first chain.
Yarn around hook, draw through both loops, and that's it you've made the first stitch.
To work your next stitch (and all subsequent stitches) insert your hook into the bottom of the last stitch you made. A bit further down is a picture with all the stitch parts labelled if you're not sure where that is.
As you did for the last stitch, you now essentially do two chains, so yarn around hook, draw through one loop, yarn around hook, draw through one loop again. So you're left with two loops on hook.
To finish the stitch, yarn around hook, draw through both loops.
Then just repeat as required.
I hope this is helpful - any questions please ask away.

After losing a significant amount of cryptocurrency through a scam on Twitter, I was unsure whether my Bitcoin funds could ever be recovered. The experience was extremely stressful, particularly because I encountered several individuals and services claiming they could help recover my assets, only to discover that some were fraudulent themselves.

It is incredibly frustrating to play the lotto and never win or to win only small amounts that don’t even reach $100. I lived that harsh reality myself; the most I had ever won was $100 after nearly 11 years of playing. However, everything changed when I discovered a secret online: the story of a spell caster named Priest Alaska, a man who helps people win any type of lotto. Although I was skeptical at first, I decided to give it a try. Now, I am proud to say that I won the lotto thanks to Priest Alaska’s spell; I won $2,000,000, and I want to share this with everyone who has been trying to win for so long. Believe me, this is the only way to win the lotto; it is the true secret we have all been looking for. His email: alaskaspellcaster44@gmail.com, you can as WhatsApp him: +233 59 274 5728
HOW I GOT MY HUSBAND BACK FROM ANOTHER WOMAN WHO HAD SPELLED HIM.
I want to thank Priest Alaska for what he has done for me and my family. I was going through a terrible situation. The problem started when my husband came home from work and I noticed his personality had changed. A few months later, he told me he was no longer interested in marriage. I love my husband very much, but all my efforts to win him back were in vain. I had come to the conclusion that my husband would never return. However, I saw comments online about Priest Alaska and how he had helped others in various ways. So, my hope of getting my husband back increased, and I contacted him to tell him about my problem. He told me it was nothing serious, to relax, and that in 48 hours my husband would come home on his own. I never believed Priest Alaska because I had heard about spiritual powers, but I didn’t believe they worked. To my great surprise, I saw my husband through the window and ran out to meet him. He was crying, saying he didn’t know what had happened to him after seeing another woman outside of our marriage. I was so happy, and I promise to tell everyone about the great and powerful Alaska Spellcaster Priest, who brought joy back into my life. Here is the Priest’s contact information: WhatsApp: +233 59 274 5728 Email: alaskaspellcaster44@gmail.com
